A group of people gathered for the reopening of the Ontario Science Center
A grassroots organization is calling on the provincial government to reopen the Ontario Science Centre, which closed abruptly in June due to construction issues.
The grassroots organization Save Ontario's Science Center held a rally in Scarborough Park on Sunday, just days after the museum's 55th anniversary. Organizer Floyd Raskin said Premier Doug Ford has received 90,000 letters from Ontarians calling for the center to reopen. Of the 90,000 letters received by the Prime Minister, 42% are from outside Toronto.
The tourist attraction, located in North York, was officially closed on June 21 due to serious structural problems, including the risk of roof panel failure. Ford declared that repairing the old building would be "foolish" and would cost more than $500 million.
According to Canadian media, before the closure of this center in June, the provincial government already had plans to transfer this tourist attraction to "Ontario Police". However, this space will not open until 2028. In this regard, the provincial government announced that it is looking for a temporary space until the construction of the new center, but it will not open until 2026.
