With the average rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Toronto now exceeding $2,400, it's getting harder and harder to find an affordable home with privacy. To appeal to those who don't have enough money to rent, landlords are resorting to creative, and in some cases downright illegal, ways to transform unconventional or small spaces into living quarters for tenants. From bedrooms full of bunk beds to beds in the middle. Kitchens and mattresses placed on the top of the stairs are strange ads in the rental market.
In one of the most recent ads, a furnished shared room in Mississauga is being advertised for $600 a month, the only caveat is that you have to live with three other people in the space. The ad was quickly shared on Reddit. and users expressed their horror and disgust at the landlord who fills a room with several beds and does not give privacy to the tenants. In this advertisement, it is mentioned that the tenants must pay the parking fee, and they must also use the laundry room, living room, kitchen and bathroom in a shared manner. This caused some people to compare this space with a boarding school or even a prison cell.
