Costco, Walmart, Metro, LaBlaze and Sobeys promised the Canadian government to stabilize prices

François Philippe Champagne, the Minister of Industry, announced on Thursday that five major food companies have presented plans to the federal government to stabilize food prices. The increase in food prices, which rose by about 7% in August compared to the previous year for the same period, has raised concerns among government officials. The government is attempting to persuade large companies to come to the negotiating table using competition law as leverage.
Experts say that three Canadian companies, Metro, Loblaw, and Sobeys, control everything, and there is no competition that benefits the people of Canada. Nevertheless, the minister seems relatively satisfied with the initial negotiations. Now, we will have to see whether these actions will actually benefit Canadians grappling with soaring expenses or not.
