According to a Statistics Canada report released Friday, about 1 in 9 Canadian adults have long-term symptoms of Covid-19.

The number of these people reaches 3.5 million Canadians. The report says that almost 80 percent of people with long-term symptoms have had them for 6 months or more.

Manali Mukherjee, an assistant professor of medicine at McMaster University who specializes in respiratory diseases and immunology, said in an interview Friday that this is "important" not only for the patients but also for the country.

Mukherjee, who has been a researcher in the field of Covid for a long time, has been involved in Covid for about 18 months. "These patients have low daily productivity," he says. Therefore, Covid affects their quality of life and has a direct impact on the social and economic situation in Canada."
