Video shows Tesla driving over firefighting hose in Vancouver
Drivers should be careful with fire equipment! A newly released video shows a Tesla driver running over a fire hose in Vancouver. In the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, firefighters were extinguishing a fire in a vacant apartment building on East 10th Street when the driver of a Tesla carelessly ran over a fire hose.
Although the Vancouver Fire Department (VFRS) stated that they were too busy at the time of the incident that they did not notice it, they called this behavior "a serious safety concern".
"We remind all residents to always follow the instructions of emergency personnel at the scene," they said in an email. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported."
Driving or otherwise interfering with fire equipment is illegal under the Vancouver Fire Code and can result in a $500 fine.
This is not the first time this has happened. In recent years, similar incidents have occurred in Vancouver that have caused hoses to burst and water to be temporarily cut off for firefighters battling the blaze.
In 2022, during a two-story house fire in South Vancouver, several drivers ran over it until the water main from the fire hydrant to the truck broke.
Deputy Superintendent Trevor Connelly said at the time: "We have people inside the building fighting fires who depend on this water for their safety. If they lose this water during the fight, disaster will happen."
Fortunately, the incident only resulted in a "minor malfunction" and the water pipeline was restarted shortly after, officials said.
No one was injured in the blaze, but officials said the apartment building — which has been unoccupied since another major fire last summer — was severely damaged and had to be demolished.
