A 17-year-old driver in Ottawa was arrested and charged for driving at a speed of 188 km/h on Highway 417. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said the driver, who only had a G2 entry-level license, was driving nearly 90 km/h over the speed limit (100 km/h) in urban areas of Ottawa at 6:00 p.m. Saturday.
While impounding the car and arresting the driver, the police accused him of show driving, dangerous driving and improper use of the HOV lane.
In Ontario, serious and dangerous driving offenses include immediate license suspension for 30 days and vehicle impoundment for 14 days. If convicted, the driver can face a fine of up to $10,000, six demerit points and up to six months in prison.
