Toronto will no longer allow free parking on holidays

Starting on Family Day (February 19, 2024), new rules for parking in Toronto will be implemented, including a ban on free parking on public holidays.

Toronto drivers used to be able to park on the streets for free on public holidays, but this caused problems like non-residents occupying parking spaces and a shortage of parking spaces for residents.

Now with the implementation of this new law, drivers have to pay for parking on holidays. This rule applies to all streets in the city of Toronto, except for areas where "free parking" signs are posted.

The purpose of this new law is to increase access to parking spaces for residents and also to encourage people to use public transportation on holidays.

Points to keep in mind:

This rule includes all public holidays, including Christmas, New Year's, and Thanksgiving.
If you park on the street without paying on a holiday, you may be fined.
You can pay for your parking using the Green P Toronto app or the Green P website.
