Toronto opened its fifth greenhouse due to extreme cold
On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, the City of Toronto opened its fifth greenhouse at Stonington Park in the Euston area. This greenhouse has been opened in response to the extreme cold that has prevailed in Toronto.
Temperatures in Toronto reportedly hit minus 20 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. This extreme cold is especially dangerous for the homeless and low-income people.
Shelters are places where homeless people can stay warm, receive food and drink, and benefit from health and social services.
The City of Toronto currently has four other greenhouses. These greenhouses are located in Euston, Duncan, Parry and Eatonville parks.
The City of Toronto has announced that it may open more greenhouses if the extreme cold continues.
In this regard, the mayor of Toronto, John Tory, has asked people to help the homeless. He said that people can help these people by donating warm clothes, food and money to charity organizations.
According to official statistics, there are about 2,500 homeless people in Toronto.
