Toronto city apologizes for spelling mistake written on bike path signs
The word trail is misspelled trial on a sign in downtown Toronto. John Otten, professor emeritus of English at Centennial College, was one of the people who noticed the typo and brought it to his attention.
"I noticed it two weeks ago and posted it on Facebook," Otten said. But for the past few days, this post has caused a stir."
The municipality announced that three of the signs on the cycling route are misspelled, two of which have been corrected and the third will be corrected. These signs are among the 500 signs that were installed in December.
Although people believe that these typographical errors cause costs, the municipal staff stated that the costs related to "correcting" these signs are negligible and that these errors rarely happen in the city.
The municipality said: "The municipality apologizes for this spelling mistake. This was the result of human error. "We are reviewing and strengthening our internal protocols to ensure that such errors do not occur before the boards are installed."
