There are 88 new Order of Canada appointees. Here's a look at some of the most notable names
88 new people have been inducted as members of the Canadian Order of Honour. These people have achieved this honor with their outstanding contributions in the society.
According to Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada: "Members of the Badge of Canada are builders of hope for a better future. Each one in some way expands the boundaries of what is possible and encourages others to try to cross it."
Established in 1967, the Badge of Canada has been awarded to more than 8,000 Canadians. This year, 88 new people were added to this list, including prominent university professors and even a Hollywood star.
This year's notables:
Ryan Reynolds: Famous actor who has achieved this recognition by supporting Canadian charities such as Water First Education and Sick Kids Foundation, as well as establishing projects to help disadvantaged groups.
Maureen Ann Jennings: author whose historical crime novels spawned the hit television series Murdoch Mysteries and mentored many writers.
Scott Oak: Longtime sports reporter and addiction treatment advocate who founded the Bruce and Ann Oak Memorial Foundation and the Bruce Oak Recovery Center.
Penchas Gutter: Holocaust education activist acclaimed for leading transformative conversations on human rights.
Christian Rousseau: A person who registered the World Mathematics Day with his efforts and works to highlight the role of mathematics in global challenges.
These introductions show the importance of individual efforts for the progress and improvement of Canadian society.
