The largest vaccine manufacturing plant was opened in Toronto
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Thursday the opening of a large vaccine manufacturing plant in Toronto. The plant is part of Canada's efforts to expand domestic manufacturing in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. Sanofi's new facility is Canada's largest vaccine manufacturing facility and is expected to significantly increase domestic production of pertussis, diphtheria, and tetanus vaccines for Canadian children and adults. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it became clear that domestic production capacity Canada is not enough to respond to the pandemic emergency and Canada was forced to import vaccines.
"With the resurgence of infectious diseases, the need for vaccine development and production in Canada is critical," said Yara Sachs, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions. By increasing the supply of vaccines in Canada, we can better support our loved ones, our communities and our vulnerable people.” Build vaccine production in Toronto by 2026.
