The body of former One Direction singer Liam Payne, 31, was found Wednesday, Oct. 16, after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentine authorities said.

Buenos Aires police said in a statement that Liam fell to his death from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel in a neighborhood in the Argentine capital.

Police officers were called to the singer's hotel to investigate the condition of a man who was said to be aggressive and possibly under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

When the police arrived, they found a man had fallen from the balcony of his room. The body of the British singer was found in the inner courtyard of the hotel and paramedics confirmed his death.

Liam Payne rose to international fame as a member of the pop group One Direction. One Direction rose to fame after coming third on the British music show The X Factor in 2010. But in 2016, this group was dissolved and its members started their solo activities.

Liam Payne has previously admitted to his mental health problems and drinking alcohol to cope with the stress of fame.

Last year, he posted a video on his YouTube channel talking about his family, his new art and returning to performing after quitting alcohol.
