The automatic renewal of car license plates will start on July 1
Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced on February 13 that Ontario drivers will soon no longer need to register their license plates annually as it will be done automatically.
But this automatic renewal will not start until July 1st of this year, and drivers who do not renew their license plates before July 1st may face a $110 fine. In 2022, the Ford government eliminated all annual license plate registration fees, but that left hundreds of thousands of cars across the province with unregistered license plates.
Finally, the Prime Minister announced that renewals will be automatic for drivers with a good record, meaning they have no outstanding fines or violations. Drivers are advised to ensure their license plates are registered before automatic renewal is implemented from July 1.
