Interpol: Canada is among the top 10 countries in the world for stolen vehicles
International Police says up to 200 Canadian cars have been found around the world since February.
The international law enforcement agency says a total of more than 1,500 vehicles will be identified in cooperation with the RCMP earlier this year to integrate Canada's vehicle database with Interpol.
The Interpol database, which collects data from 137 countries, shows that so far this year Canada is among the top 10 countries in the world for land vehicles.
The agency says thieves are attracted to high-value Canadian models such as SUVs and crossovers, which are often sent to countries in the Middle East and West Africa where they are traded or resold.
Jürgen Stock, Secretary General of Interpol, has announced in a statement that vehicles are a significant resource for transnational organized crime groups.
Stolen vehicles are not only used for drug use to pay for other criminal networks, Stock says.
