St. Lawrence hatch strike: Ships begin sailing after tentative agreement reached
St. Lawrence Marine Management Co. says ships are expected to start sailing Monday morning after reaching a tentative agreement with Unifor to end a labor strike that has halted the system.
The company says workers will return to work at 7 a.m.
The tentative agreement, which has yet to be ratified, ends a strike that began on October 22.
The industrial action by 360 workers on behalf of Unifor has stopped ships in the key trade corridor.
Details of the settlement weren't immediately available, but the union has been fighting for wage increases to counter cost-of-living increases.
The premiers of Ontario and Quebec had asked Ottawa to intervene if federally mediated talks failed to end the exit quickly.
