'Selfish billionaire': Chip Wilson's mansion vandalized after political sign erected outside
Days after a political sign was installed outside Chip Wilson's Vancouver mansion, the beachfront property was vandalized with graffiti.
Spray-painted messages including "Selfish billionaire lives here" and "F*** you, Chip" were spotted on his luxury Point Gray home over the weekend.
The Vancouver Police Department confirmed that the vandalism is under investigation, but did not provide further details, including when the graffiti was first discovered and whether the incident may have been caught on surveillance cameras.
A political sign recently installed outside the property has drawn a lot of criticism online, with some social media users criticizing the way it portrayed David Ibey and the British Columbia NDP government.
"Ebby will tell you the Tories are 'extremely right-wing,' but neglect to mention that the NDP is 'communist,'" the sign read.
Since coming to power in 2017, the NDP government has raised taxes on homes assessed over $3 million and increased income taxes on the top two percent of earners. Wilson's home was recently appraised at approximately $82 million.
Asked about the sign at Wilson's home last week, Ibey defended the government's policies and suggested the Lululemon founder was out of touch with ordinary people.
"When you're rich enough to have the Red Hot Chili Peppers perform at your birthday party, you can lose perspective," he said. "I just want to say to Mr. Wilson: People are fighting there and we have to support them."
It is unclear who posted the sign outside the property. CTV News reached out to Wilson's representative Thursday, but did not receive a response.
This story was reported by Lisa Stacey of CTV News Vancouver.
