Sask premier promises "biggest increase in school operating budget in history".

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe has announced the province's plans to increase education funding - ahead of the provincial budget.
In a video posted to X, Mo announced that the province would provide $180 million in additional funding. This increase brings total education spending to $2.2 billion.

"This increase includes more than $356 million specifically earmarked for classroom support," Moe said in the message. "The 2024-25 provincial budget will include the largest increase in school operating funding in Saskatchewan's history."

"This should clearly demonstrate our government's commitment to addressing teachers' concerns about classroom supports," he said.
Mo also called on the federation to stop all planned actions.

He added: I ask the STF to stop its industrial action so that teachers and students can return to their classrooms and the teachers' union can return to the negotiating table.

In a news release issued Wednesday evening, STF President Samantha Beckett called the announcement "politically motivated" and made it clear that teachers will not return to the negotiating table until the size and complexity of their contract is reviewed.

"Until the government and the Saskatchewan School Boards Association are willing to include a definitive and irreversible commitment in the collective agreement, we will not return to the negotiating table," Beckott said. "This is not a deal on the table and this is not an irrevocable commitment in the contract."
