Record rainfall in metropolitan Toronto and special meteorological statement
Toronto and the entire Toronto metropolitan area were placed under a special weather statement on Friday following unprecedented rainfall. Environment Canada warned of the possibility of 15 to 25 mm of rain in the city on Friday morning. Fog made morning commutes difficult, and the weather agency warned of "the possibility of flooding in some poorly drained areas."
Earlier today, some people reported standing water on major highways, including the southbound lanes of the 400 freeway near Shepherd Street. The same special weather statement is in place for other areas outside of metropolitan Toronto, including Hamilton, Waterloo-Wellington and Dufferin-Innisfil. . Areas north and east of the city, such as Belleville and Peterborough, may experience hail and freezing conditions.
According to meteorological experts, after the rain stops, we will see cloudy weather with a maximum temperature of 4 degrees Celsius. There is a chance of more rain and fog until the evening.
Light rain will ease early on Saturday, with mostly cloudy skies and a high of 4 degrees Celsius expected for the day.
As temperatures drop to 2 degrees on Sunday, we may see some light snow on this day. Finally, on Monday, the weather will be a little sunny.
