More than 30,000 SUVs, pickup trucks recalled in Canada over crash risk

More than 30,000 popular SUVs and pickup trucks in Canada have been recalled due to issues that automakers say could increase the risk of crashes.

Transport Canada this week announced a recall for 20,521 Ford Escapes from the 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2025 models.

The notice states:
“On some vehicles, the trunk hinge covers may not be installed properly, which could result in the parts becoming loose or separating from the vehicle. The separation of the part could pose a hazard to others and increase the risk of a crash.”

Transport Canada also this week recalled more than 10,000 Ram pickup trucks over a software issue that could affect the vehicle’s display.

The agency said 9,842 Ram pickup trucks from the 2025 and 2026 model years may be affected.

The notice states:
“If an issue occurs, you may not be able to see some important vehicle information, including gear position, warnings and indicator lights.”

The recall only affects vehicles equipped with the 12-inch digital instrument cluster. RAM 3500, 4500 and 5500 models with a partial cab chassis are also affected.

In addition, 421 2019 Ram pickup trucks are being recalled due to a possible defect in the side curtain airbag inflators.

According to Transport Canada:
“This defect could cause the airbag inflators to deploy suddenly, sending metal fragments flying toward the occupants. This could increase the risk of injury.”

A handful of other Ford SUVs were also recalled this week. According to the notice, 501 Lincoln MKTs from 2016 to 2019 are affected by a problem with the driver and front passenger door trim.

123 Lincoln Navigators from 2025 are also being recalled due to a defect in the taillight strip.

According to the notices, the automakers will contact owners of the vehicles via letter and owners should visit authorized dealers to have the problem fixed.
