Police release new photos in the search for the gunman in the UnitedHealthcare CEO killing
Police release new photos in search of shooting that killed UnitedHealthcare CEO
The masked gunman who killed the CEO of one of the largest US health insurance companies in front of a Manhattan hotel used ammunition marked with the words "deny", "defend" and "dismissal". According to two officials, the words were written in permanent marker.
UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, 50, was killed Wednesday in a surprise attack while walking to the company's annual investor conference near the Hilton Hotel in midtown Manhattan. The investigation shows that the attack was deliberate, but the reason is still unknown.
The NYPD has released photos of a person identified as a suspect and wanted for questioning. Also, research has shown that the shooter probably had previous training in the field of using weapons and used a silencer. The suspect fled on a bicycle after the shooting and was last seen entering Central Park.
Thompson, a father of two sons, has been with UnitedHealthcare since 2004 and served as the company's CEO for more than three years.
"Brian was a much-respected colleague and friend to all employees," parent company UnitedHealth Group, which is headquartered in Minnesota, said in a statement. Following the incident, the company ended its meeting with investors early.
Thompson's wife told the media that she had received threats before, but did not provide further information.
