Parents prohibited from watching Halifax youth basketball games after poor behaviour
Clashes between fans and referees have escalated at children's basketball games in Halifax.
"Seven or eight fans were ejected from games last week and some coaches were ejected for misbehavior," said Matt Boyle, director of the Metro Basketball Association.
Boyle, who is also an arbitrator, says that while disagreements are common and harmless, the situation is escalating.
As a result, the Metro Basketball Association decided to take action and ban all parents from all weekend games.
"Major issues include fans' statements, yelling at opposing teams, misconduct by custodians to enforce stated rules regarding access to spaces," league director Chris Lert said in part of a letter to parents.
Some parents think this is unfair.
"I think they should punish the parents involved," said Lacey L. If they do bad, let it be in any way.
