Ottawa Hospital declares 'Code Orange' after transformer fire at General Campus
The Ottawa Hospital issued a "code orange" and asked people to avoid the public campus Friday night after a fire at a water transformer affected operations at Ottawa's largest hospital.
In a statement, the hospital said that while the fire has been contained, it is "currently unable to resume normal operations as well as patient requests from the emergency department."
People were asked not to go to the general campus for treatment and not to visit other emergency departments in Ottawa at the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus, Montfort Hospital and Queensway-Carleton Hospital.
"Firefighters are working to ventilate the smoke and put out the flames," said the Ottawa Fire Department.
"Code Red" was first announced in the hospital on Friday afternoon and some patients were transferred to other areas of the hospital.
The fire was contained after 18:00.
"Some patients have been moved throughout the hospital and teams are working to ensure the safety of everyone in the hospital," the Ottawa hospital said.
The fire did not cause any casualties.
