Ontario gives Toronto $114M for exceeding its 2023 housing targets

The Ford government announced Thursday that it will receive $114 million in funding as Toronto met more than 50 percent of its housing goals last year. "Toronto has shown that it can to do so in the field of housing and we are proud to reward them for this achievement."

"My challenge with Mayor Olivia Chow and the rest of Ontario's mayors is to build more homes in the coming years so we can make life more affordable for people and keep the home ownership dream alive for families across the province," he added.

The announcement came after Toronto began building about 31,000 new housing units in 2023.

Ford added that dozens of municipalities have exceeded their housing goals and their budgets will be announced soon. "It's harder than ever for Torontonians to find a home they can afford," said Mayor Chow. We want to solve the housing crisis by building different houses faster. "Toronto has an ambitious plan to build 65,000 rental homes in the coming years."
