Targeted shooting in Burnaby Metrotown; one dead, car burned near Central Park

Deadly shooting at Metrotown shopping mall in Burnaby; Metro Vancouver police investigation continues
A fatal shooting occurred Wednesday evening in one of Burnaby’s busiest shopping districts — located in Metro Vancouver — that has left residents in the area shocked and concerned.
According to Burnaby Police and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), at approximately 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2025, officers were dispatched to the scene of a shooting near the intersection of McKay Avenue and Kingsborough Street, within the Metrotown shopping mall.
At the scene, officers found the body of a man who, despite the efforts of emergency services, died.
Police have said that the incident was likely targeted and that there is no threat to public safety at this time.
Shortly after the shooting, emergency services reported finding a burning car near Central Park. It is not yet clear if the car is directly connected to the shooting, but investigators are investigating any possible connections.
The IHIT team is leading the investigation and is asking witnesses, businesses and motorists to contact police if they have any CCTV footage or information.
A Burnaby police spokesperson said:
“Our focus is on identifying the individuals involved and the motive for this shooting. While it appears to be targeted, a large police presence remains in place to ensure public safety.”
The shooting is one of several recent violent incidents in the metro Vancouver area that have raised concerns about an increase in targeted and revenge-related fighting between groups.
