Mothers across the country are paying a "motherhood penalty" in the workplace, a new report suggests
A new report from Maturn, a Vancouver-based organization that advocates for working mothers, shows that working mothers in Canada face a lack of support in the workplace. This study shows that 50% of mothers are dissatisfied with the support received during maternity leave, and a third of them are thinking of leaving their jobs due to the lack of sufficient support. The report addresses five main issues and offers practical suggestions for improving support for working mothers. These topics include professional development, mental health, flexibility in scheduling, childcare support and improved maternity leave protections. The report also emphasizes the need for government policies to focus more on the family and the participation of both parents in taking care of children.
