More than a thousand restaurants and coffee shops in Toronto have patios on the sidewalks
Nearly 90% of the patios of restaurants and coffee shops in Toronto will be open before the Victoria Day holiday. Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said on Tuesday that more than 1,000 patios will be opened as part of the CafeTO program by the start of the Victoria Day holiday. According to the program, restaurants and coffee shops whose request is accepted can use the designated space on the sidewalks and next to the tables to serve customers.
The installation of signs and safety equipment for the implementation of this program will begin this weekend and continue until June 1st. One of the features of this year's program is the installation of cement barriers decorated with beautiful designs around the patios. T.O.'s coffee program started in 2020 following the start of the Covid pandemic, and it was changed from temporary to permanent last year.
