Manitoba government tables bill to end ban on homegrown recreational cannabis
Manitoba plans to lift ban on home cultivation of recreational cannabis.
A new bill introduced in the Manitoba legislature would allow people 19 and older in the province to grow up to four cannabis plants in their home for personal consumption. This legislation aligns Manitoba with Canada's federal regulations on cannabis.
"This amendment was a direct response to cannabis users in Manitoba and one of our campaign promises," Manitoba Justice Minister Matt Wiebe said in a news release. This bill gives Manitobans the opportunity to grow their own cannabis, as long as it's done in a safe and secure manner. "The regulatory framework prioritizes public safety and will focus on protecting young people and ensuring that minors do not have access to cannabis plants."
Quebec remains the only province to ban the home cultivation of recreational cannabis.
