Man arrested at LAX after allegedly checking suitcases filled with over 70 pounds of meth-caked clothing
A California man was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport after he allegedly tried to check in two bags containing more than 70 pounds of clothing laced with methamphetamine, including a cowhide jumpsuit, for a flight to Australia. According to the complaint filed in the Central District of California, Raj Mataro had checked two suitcases, one pink and one khaki, on his Nov. 6 flight to Sydney.
Screening officers, who used X-rays to check the luggage, noticed "inaccuracies" and upon further inspection found more than a dozen light-colored clothes, stiff and covered in white powder, which later tested positive for methamphetamine. One of these dresses was a cowhide dress.
Mataro stopped at his gate and admitted ownership of the luggage. He was later arrested and charged with one count of drug possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
