Incident resolved after reports of man armed with knife at U of M
Winnipeg police said Tuesday morning's incident at the University of Manitoba involving a man armed with a knife in the Allen Building has been resolved.
Police stressed that there was no immediate threat to public safety and that the Major Crimes Unit was investigating the incident.
At approximately 7:40 a.m., police reported that a man armed with a knife was inside the Allen Building, located at 30 Sifton Road. The dangerous person warning was also sent to mobile phones, TV and radio.
Later that morning, the university advised people on campus to stay in place and lock doors. Also, those who were not present in the compound were asked not to come there.
The stay-at-home order has now been lifted, the university said.
All classes, exams and events scheduled for the remainder of Tuesday have been canceled.
Virtual classes and those held at Buntin Campus will continue.
Winnipeg police are scheduled to release more information about the incident at 1 p.m.
