Arrest of three people for stealing 20 cars worth 1.8 million dollars

Investigators with the Peel Regional Crime Bureau have arrested three people in a car theft investigation in which 20 cars worth $1.8 million were recovered. The investigation, in collaboration with the Canada Border Services Agency, led to the discovery of the cars as well as 38 charges against three people.

In December 2023, the department began investigating a local transportation depot in Brampton. In this regard, an industrial unit was identified in Bolton that loaded stolen vehicles destined for foreign ports such as Dubai, Oman and Sohar (a city in Oman). Investigators discovered several high-model pickup trucks and other vehicles bound for overseas. On March 26, police executed several search warrants that resulted in three people being arrested and charged.

62-year-old Fouad Shakhtoor from Toronto was charged with four counts of trafficking in stolen goods, four counts of possession of stolen property, two counts of possession of a car key, and two counts of violating a release order. 38-year-old Ali El-Fair of Toronto was charged with two counts of trafficking in stolen goods, two counts of possession of stolen property, two counts of possessing the master key of a car, breach of undertaking and breach of release order.

Harvey Bopara, 29, of Mississauga, was charged with eight counts of trafficking in stolen goods and 10 counts of possession of stolen property.
