An elderly couple in South Carolina died due to the high temperature of the heater
The bodies of an elderly couple from South Carolina were found in their bedroom after authorities said the heater in their home reached 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit (about 538 degrees Celsius). Police in Spartanburg, California, said Saturday around 6 p.m. Joanne Littlejohn, 84, and Glenwood Fowler, 82, attended.
According to local reports, the family members of this couple did not know about them for three days and that is why they asked the police for help. According to the police, the rescuers entered the house through the bedroom window and found the couple dead. Immediately after entering, they noticed that the air in the house was extremely hot.
Using a specialized device, paramedics took the body temperatures of Little John and Fowler. It read 106 degrees Fahrenheit (nearly 41 degrees Celsius), the highest temperature read by the device.
They also measured the temperature inside the house, which was 120 degrees Fahrenheit (about 49 degrees Celsius). When we went into the basement to access the heater, it was so hot it felt like the basement was on fire, a firefighter said in the police report. The fire was burning. The couple complained that the house was cold days before family members tampered with the heater and restarted it. The Spartanburg Fire Department confirmed that there was no evidence of carbon monoxide poisoning at the couple's residence.
