American comedian Rob Schneider has canceled his trip to Canada
On Friday, Yaroslav Honka, an elderly Ukrainian veteran who had fought in World War II as a member of the First Ukrainian Division and as a Nazi officer, was honored by the Canadian House of Commons to standing ovations. This event sparked international outrage as it later became apparent that Honka had fought alongside the Nazis.
In response to this event, renowned comedian Rob Schneider, best known for his roles in popular NBC television series and movies like "Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo" and "The Benchwarmers," canceled his upcoming trip to Canada. Schneider described this act of respect as unacceptable, hateful, and cruel. He also criticized Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and referred to the peaceful protests of truckers that led to numerous arrests.
Schneider further posted on social media, condemning "ignorant Canadians" for not being aware of Honka's past as a Nazi collaborator. He humorously expressed the need to apologize for meeting a Canadian girl, watching hockey games, and indulging in syrup on his pancakes.
While Anthony Rota, the Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons, issued an apology for honoring Honka, he resigned on Tuesday following pressure from the New Democratic Party, the Bloc Quebecois, and Jewish groups nationwide.
