Canada's largest gold theft at Pearson Airport; 400 kilograms of gold and a fake bill of lading
In April 2023, Toronto Pearson International Airport witnessed one of the most audacious robberies in Canadian history. In this incident, 6,600 gold bars weighing approximately 400 kilograms, along with $20 million in cash, were removed from the airport’s cargo area using a forged bill of lading.
According to police, the operation was carried out by a professional smuggling ring organized with the cooperation of several Air Canada employees. So far, nine suspects have been arrested in the case, but a significant portion of the gold has been melted down or taken out of the country.
The event has been recorded as the largest gold heist in Canadian history, and the investigation is still ongoing to find the remaining gold.
