Air Canada ranked last in North America for "on-time" performance

Air Canada recorded the worst on-time performance among major North American airlines in 2023.

Last year, only 63 percent of Air Canada's flights landed on time, placing it last among the continent's 10 largest airlines. This means that approximately 140,000 aircraft landed late (more than 15 minutes late).

According to CTV, Canada's other largest airline, WestJet, ranked seventh in North America with a score of 69%.

Delta Air Lines was first with an on-time performance of 85 percent, followed by Alaska Airlines with an on-time performance of 82 percent.

"However, our performance has been steadily improving, with year-end monthly on-time performance showing a double-digit improvement over July," Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick said in an email. It was attention."

According to Sirius, 49% of Air Canada flights were delayed in July. According to Fitzpatrick, the company is focusing on reducing the number of flight delays and cancellations in 2024.

One of the reasons for these delays is the cold Canadian weather. This means that planes must be de-iced and runways cleared of snow in early October. As a result, the landing and take-off times are delayed.
