A raccoon knocked out power to thousands of people in downtown Toronto
Power has been restored to about 7,000 downtown Toronto Hydro customers Thursday evening.
Hydro One said the power outage was the result of a raccoon coming into contact with their equipment at a station in downtown Toronto shortly after 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The area west of St. Clair Street to the west of Gerrard Street and Avenue Street to "Parkway Don Valley" suffered power outages. Electricity was restored around 10:15 p.m.
According to Toronto fire officials, they responded to a power outage in a large number of elevators, while traffic lights and transit services in the area were also affected. The outage also affected a portion of the downtown subway line.
