The Quebec government is making a new offer to public sector workers

The Quebec government is offering a proposal to increase salaries in the public sector by 13.3% over the course of five years in an effort to conclude negotiations with union leaders by the end of December. In their new proposal, basic salaries will increase by 10.3%, which is more than 1% higher than the government's previous offer. Additionally, other positions will see an additional 2.5% to 3% increase.
Sonia Loubier, the head of the Treasury Board, has also announced that all temporary bonuses, except those related to COVID-19, will be extended until a collective agreement is renewed. This decision may lead to the continuation of strikes by hundreds of thousands of workers, scheduled for November 6.
Quebec unions representing 400,000 public sector workers will go on strike on November 6. These four unions represent a total of 420,000 workers in healthcare, education, and social services sectors. They have been making requests to the provincial government for improved wages and working conditions and other issues over the past year.
