Another beluga whale has been confirmed dead in Marineland, and four years after a provincial investigation, little progress has been made.

The beluga death is the fourth in the past year, provincial records show. As of 2019, sixteen beluga whales and one killer whale have died in Niagara Falls, Ontario (the only place in Canada that still keeps whales in captivity).

Animal Welfare Ontario launched an investigation into Marineland in 2020. The following year, the province of Ontario declared all marine mammals at Marineland endangered due to poor water quality and ordered the park to fix the problem.

But the bulga's death has left opposition politicians and animal welfare advocates questioning the transparency of the provincial government's investigation.

According to Canadian news agencies, the spokesperson of the Attorney General Michael Kerzner said that the animal welfare service has conducted more than 200 inspections in this park, but did not explain how the inspections were conducted, what orders were issued, and what the results were.
