Zamboni driver in western Quebec arrested for impaired driving after rink incident
The driver of a Zamboni in western Quebec has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a low-speed crash at a hockey rink on Monday.
Police in the area say the 25-year-old was arrested after the ice restoration machine hit the boards at a rink in Chelsea, Quebec, while cleaning the ice between games.
A 30-second video (opens in a new tab) posted online shows a referee skating alongside the machine and its driver as it loudly hits the boards.
Col. Martin Fournell of MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais public security says several people witnessed the incident, and one of them called police after seeing signs that the driver was drunk.
He says police administered a field sobriety test and then arrested the rink employee, who was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
Police say no one was injured, but an entrance door to the rink was damaged.
