Worker covered in crude oil prompts hospital evacuation
A worker arrived at Weyburn General Hospital covered in crude oil Friday, prompting the evacuation of the building and the report of a gas leak, according to the city's fire chief.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) said that around 11:30 a.m. Friday, crews were called to the hospital for a gas leak, 22 patients were evacuated from the building along with staff and taken to local care homes.
Shortly after that, it was found that a patient infected with a crude oil product came to the hospital from the oil field. This smell spread throughout the building with the help of the ventilation system.
As of 2:30 p.m. Friday, crews were on the scene doing ventilation operations throughout the building, Lee said.
Lee added that there were no reports of injuries or damage to anyone at the hospital.
Weyburn is located about 116 km southeast of Regina.
