A fire in Barrhaven has injured a firefighter, damaged a house and spread to a neighbour's house
The Ottawa Fire Service says a firefighter was injured after a "partial roof collapse" hit him while battling a blaze in Barrhaven.
The injured firefighter was able to get out of the fire with the help of his colleagues and was taken to the hospital.
OFS says the fire started in the garage of a single family home on Friday at 23 Sutcliffe Terr. Then it spread to the neighbor's house.
Although all four members of the family who lived in the house managed to get out safely, they are now displaced, OFS added.
Firefighters added that they also rescued five pets from the fire. Crews add that three dogs, a cat and a rabbit were inside the home and some were given oxygen.
They were able to prevent the neighboring house from catching fire. OFS adds: The fire that had spread to it was brought under control at 2:32 p.m.
The initial fire was fully contained at 2:37 p.m.
