Two teens missing after falling through the ice on the Rideau River in Ottawa
A search is underway for two teenagers who fell through the ice in the Rideau River at the south end of Ottawa, emergency responders said.
Emergency crews Wednesday to rescue the people in the river on Nicholls Island Road near Barrhaven. They answered the call at 21:30.
Atawa paramedics said the call reported four teenagers trapped in the ice.
Two teenagers, a 15-year-old woman and a 17-year-old man, get out of the water. They were taken to hospital with mild hypothermia.
The search continued this morning for two more teenagers.
An Ottawa police officer was taken to hospital for injuries from the dive, paramedics said.
Atawa has seen warmer than normal temperatures through December, with five consecutive days above zero degrees Celsius. The temperature reached 6.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and 4.1 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
