Trump's new controversial decision: $250 fee for US visas, even for Canadian permanent residents
Trump's New Controversial Decision: $250 Fee for US Visas, Even for Permanent Residents of Canada
In a new and controversial decision, the Trump administration plans to impose a new visa fee of $250 for non-immigrants entering the United States; a fee that will even include Canadian permanent resident card holders, if they require a visa.
The measure, which is part of the plan known as "Trump's Big Beautiful Act", was announced with the aim of covering the costs of border security, including the construction of a border wall with Mexico. Although the implementation date of this law has not yet been officially announced, the reactions in cyberspace and the media have brought a wave of criticism and concern from citizens of both countries.
In an analysis, Dr. Sanjay Gupta also pointed out the psychological and social effects of this policy on international relations and warned that such decisions could cause a chill in relations between countries.
While there was previously a proposal to extend visa-free stay for Canadians in the United States to 240 days, now with the addition of this fee, hopes for easier travel have given way to doubt and dissatisfaction. Many believe that with this decision, the United States will actually push tourists away from itself and towards destinations like Canada.
