Toronto retiree wins $5 million in Lotto 649
On November 29, 2023, a retired Toronto man named Rafael Mesa Valdez won $5 million in the Lotto 649 Classic drawing.
Valdez, a retired construction worker, told the OLG (Ontario Lottery Operator) that he had been a regular lottery player for the past 30 years and that Lotto 649 was one of his favorite games.
After realizing that he won, he returned home with his wife to share the news with celebration and joy. Now he and his family have big plans for the future.
"My wife didn't believe me and thought I was joking," Valdez said.
"I plan to use this money to buy a house in downtown Toronto," he added. "When I came here, I always wanted to live downtown, and now I'm going to make that happen."
Valdez bought his winning Lotto 649 ticket at ABC Convenient on Bloor Street in Toronto.
Lotto Classic 649 has a fixed prize of $5 million, while Ballon d'Or winners win a $1 million prize or a larger prize of $10 million to $60 million.
