Toronto Hydro: About 2,500 people were without power in Scarborough today
About 2,500 people are without power in Scarborough as of Saturday morning, according to Toronto Hydro.
Residents in the area of Ellesmere Road south to Kingston Road and Markham Road east to Morningside are without power from 9am.
The transformer located at East Lawrence Street and Everton Park Road appears to have caught fire.
Toronto Fire Services confirmed they responded to reports of a transformer fire, but there was only smoke when they arrived.
A spokesperson for Toronto Hydro confirmed that the outage was caused by a pole fire.
"Crews are on site working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible," the statement said. And power has been restored to about half of the affected customers.
Electricity is expected to be fully restored shortly after 3 p.m.
