"The representative who changed her party is now the target of threats!"
RCMP investigating online threats against newly elected Liberal MP
RCMP in Nova Scotia are investigating online threats against Chris d’Entremont, a MP who recently defected from the Conservative Party to the Liberal Party.
The threats were reported to the Yarmouth Rural RCMP on Wednesday and the investigation is ongoing, said Cindy Bayers, a spokesperson for the Nova Scotia RCMP.
D’Entremont, who represents the riding of Acadie–Annapolis in Nova Scotia, first entered the House of Commons in 2019. He was previously Deputy Speaker and this week, in a surprise move from the Conservatives, joined the Liberal Party.
In a statement released Tuesday, he said he had tendered his resignation to Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre and the Speaker of the House of Commons after the 2025 federal budget was presented.
Police have not released details about the nature of the threats but confirmed that the case is under investigation. The incident reflects a rise in online threats against Canadian politicians, a phenomenon that has raised growing security concerns in recent years.
