The end of the Quebec teachers' strike
The Quebec Teachers' Union, which represents 40 percent of Quebec teachers, has finally reached an agreement with the government to end its strike that began on Nov. 23 and closed more than 800 schools in Quebec. The FAE union announced an end to its pressure tactics on the government, including a general strike of 800 schools across Quebec. If students return to school according to the agreement reached in January, they will have been away from school for about 7 weeks. The FAE union, which represents more than 66,000 teachers, had the toughest stance against the government among all state unions. Students are scheduled to return to school on January 9.
