The damaged city of Newfoundland moves away from the sea

Lori Dix, in an interview, said: "Significant changes have occurred for us and all residents. The city's landscape has transformed. In a report, Fiona demolished around 100 homes in southwestern Newfoundland on the same day, and a 73-year-old woman lost her life when pulled towards the sea. Homes that belonged to generations of families were destroyed, and some lost everything in their homes.

"Bourin Barem, N.L., where all our homes used to be, is gone, with nothing left. Now all our houses are ruined." The whole ordeal is very emotional. We see all the visible damages around, but no one understands the psychological toll it has taken on the community. Personally, it's been a struggle for me... just a mental effort to preserve and cope with it all." Dix and her husband have started their new life in Barem Barem. She has rebuilt her own hairdressing business in their new town.

Fiona's cleanup efforts are still ongoing on Prince Edward Island. An area that appears to be most at risk for severe storm-related damages, even areas with a fraction of Fiona's force. Some residents call it the "Fiona Line."

Mayor Brian Button stated in an interview that more than 80 homes have been destroyed by Fiona along this line. Another 57 homes behind the line are still occupied. Button said that homeowners will be bought out by the provincial government so they can relocate elsewhere.

According to the Department of Justice and Public Safety, the provincial government has paid approximately $41.6 million in compensation to the people of southwestern Newfoundland who lost their homes in the storm. The department stated that owners of 57 homes inside the affected area will receive a minimum of $200 per square foot for their homes and compensation for their land. Fiona submerged a significant portion of the city's shoreline, and these homes are now dangerously close to the water.
