The Alberta Legislature resumes sitting, beginning with the Speech from the Throne

The Alberta Legislature resumes today, beginning with the Speech from the Throne.

House Leader Joseph Shaw has said there will be between seven and nine bills in the session, which runs until early December.

Premier Daniel Smith's United Conservative government is stipulating in legislation that a referendum must be held before Alberta withdraws from the Canada Pension Plan and creates a provincial plan.

The government has also promised to legislate for Albertans directly involved in future tax increases.
The throne speech is intended to provide an outline of the government's goals and priorities.

The opposition New Democrats have released their replacement throne speech, calling on the government to address issues such as high car insurance, high electricity costs, rising tuition fees and housing shortages.
