Taylor Swift Eras Tour: Ticket scam west of Toronto costs 40 people more than $70K
On Taylor Swift's "Eras" tour, a ticket scam in west Toronto cost 40 people more than $70,000.
Dozens of people in the Halton area have lost large sums of money after buying fake or non-existent tickets to Taylor Swift concerts in Toronto. Police said in a statement Monday that complaints about undelivered tickets had been received since Nov. 14, the first of six Swift concerts.
The researchers said they identified at least 40 such incidents, totaling more than $70,000 in losses. All these transactions were from a single "seller".
Halton police said the two sets of ticket scams are linked and their financial crimes unit is investigating. No arrests have been made so far.
Police have asked residents to exercise caution when buying tickets and be aware of scams and scams.
The Canadian Anti-Fraud Center announced last week that 190 people reported losing money trying to buy concert tickets. A spokesperson for the center said most victims were scammed through stolen accounts of people they knew.
Taylor Swift performed at Toronto's Rogers Center for three sold-out nights last week and is set to perform three more times in the city before wrapping up her tour in early December in Vancouver.
