Seneca Polytechnic to temporarily close Markham campus, cites expected decrease in international enrollment
Seneca Polytechnic University has announced that it will temporarily close one of its campuses north of Toronto due to the federal government's reduction in the number of international students.
The cuts have led to declining enrollment and the closing of the Markham campus, which will begin at the end of the fall 2024 semester, the college says.
The courses that were planned for this branch will be transferred to the Newnham and Seneca@York faculty in Toronto by the winter semester of 2025.
Ottawa announced in January that it would reduce the number of international student enrollments in 2024, but last month cut that number by another 10 percent.
According to Canadian media, Canada plans to reduce the number of foreign students to 437,000 in 2025 and 2026.
